Throughout my life, now that I am already more
than 50 years old, I have come to realise that many strange things tend to
happen when the heart is involved. The older we get, even though we may just
want to live a quiet and peaceful life, the war between the mind and the heart
apparently never ends. It continues.
Sometimes we think we already understand
ourselves. We know what we should do and what we should leave behind. But when
the heart starts to speak, everything we thought we knew can suddenly change. The
heart is a strange thing. It does not always want to follow what the mind tells
it to do.
I know there are many stories that people want
to carry with them to their graves. Not because they do not want to tell them,
but because they are embarrassed. Or perhaps they are afraid that if they let
the story out, someone they love might get hurt. There are some things that are
easier to keep inside than to say out loud.
The world is strange, but in many things,
perhaps only the heart truly understands. The mind, on the other hand, always
wants everything to make sense. Maybe that is because it is up there, sitting
higher than the heart. So the mind always thinks it knows better…
I don't know. Perhaps that is simply how the
heart is.
The heart may know that someone has already left, yet somehow, it still keeps a little hope that perhaps, one day, that person will come back.
Maybe
that is what they mean when they say, “hoping for the moon to fall into your lap.”
