As I Get Older, I’m Starting to Realise That Being Drunk in Love Costs More Than Gambling.
With gambling, we know the limit. We bring only the money we are willing to lose. If we lose, at worst, the money is gone. Tomorrow, we can still earn it back...
But love... we never know when we start to “place our bet.” There is no receipt, no contract, and most importantly, there is no limit to how much we can lose.
At first, we smile to ourselves. When the phone rings, our heart beats like we have just won the lottery. Someone says our name, and suddenly the whole day feels beautiful, like Disneyland. Other people might think we just got a bonus. The truth is, all we got was a message saying, “Have you eaten?”
The problem is, when love does not work out, we lose more than just time, money and dignity. Sometimes, we lose our confidence too.
Some become quiet. Some become poets. And some become like stones — hard on the outside, but cracked on the inside.
Everything is ruined... punah semuanya. Kata Ziana Zain dalam Madah Berhelah
And some just leave the village and disappear to Pekan Pahang... emmm...
The funniest part is, we know it might never work. Our friends have already shown that they are tired of hearing about it. Even our brain has raised the white flag.
But the heart still refuses to give up.
Nya kehel jugok.
That is love.
Perhaps that is why people say:
“A person who is in love is not stupid. They have simply stopped using their brain.”
